The degree course I did was called BSc (Hons) Internet Computing. It is regarded as a challenging degree that covers quite a few programming subjects and difficult material, which requires a good level of technical ability in order to do well in it.
Most of the lecturers and support staff involved in presenting the course and helping to make the place run smoothly, I have to say, were great. They put a lot of time and energy into their jobs and it showed, so thanks to them.
In the UK, degrees are classified as '3rd', '2.2', 2.1' and '1st', with a 1st class honours being the highest possible degree level achievable. It's worth noting that the marking all works using a percentage scale; with 40% being the lower end signifying a 3rd (pass), and 70% being the upper end of the scale, signifying first class degree level work. The other classes then basically fit somewhere in between.
The table below shows the marks I was awarded for each module in my final year.
| Level | Credits | Module Title | Mark (%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | 30 | Multi-service Networks | 76 |
| 3 | 15 | Open Source Software Development | 85 |
| 3 | 30 | Computing Project | 64 |
| 3 | 15 | Functional Programming | 40 |
| 3 | 30 | Software Quality, Professionalism and Ethics | 76 |
The table below shows the marks I was awarded for each module in my second year at University.
| Level | Credits | Module Title | Mark (%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 30 | Further Programming | 92 |
| 2 | 30 | Internet Software Development | 88 |
| 2 | 30 | Systems Programming | 85 |
| 2 | 30 | Database Design & Implementation | 79 |
This table shows the marks I was awarded for each module in my first year at Uni.
| Level | Credits | Module Title | Mark (%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 30 | Introductory Java Programming | 95 |
| 1 | 30 | Introductory Database Implementation | 76 |
| 1 | 30 | User-Centred Web Interface Development | 73 |
| 1 | 30 | Computer and Internet Fundamentals | 91 |
The final overall degree classification is calculated from the second and fourth year results, and is weighted based on the number of credits each module is worth. This makes working out the final mark a bit weird, but it ends up like this:
| Title | Award Aim | Awarded Class | Average Mark |
|---|---|---|---|
| BSc Internet Computing | BSC_HONS | First Class Honours | 75 % |
Yeah, level 3 (the final year) was very difficult and without a doubt the hardest to cope with. There were a few bad times when I was seriously worried that I had failboated and wouldn't get my degree; so I suppose it's not surprising I didn't do as well in that. Thankfully though, it's the overall result that matters. I don't think it has sunk in yet, but I am really glad to have achieved what I set out to.
Sorry if this bit gets a bit soggy, but it has to be done. I have to say a big thank you to all my friends, colleagues, far away friends, and of course, my family. Without a little help from all these people, I am quite sure the past four years would not have been possible - so thanks!

Congratulations Lewis. I always had you down for getting a first but you had me worried there on a few occasions, I know you’d have viewed a perfectly good 2.1 as an underachievement! From your time working for our firm, you showed dedication as well as great technical abilities and I’m sure that will take you far in your career.
